Rampert Dance Company

Gwen and I saw the Rampert Dance Company tonight at Sadler's Wells.

We particularly liked the piece A Linha Curva. The stage design with the colorful lights, the energy, the choreography, and the samba beats were awesome. The percussionists even used berimbaus at one point.

Epping Forest

We cycled to Epping forest today. It's a beautiful ride along the canals.

Tonight was one of those evenings where Gwen booked the tickets in advance and all I knew was that we'd be seeing something. We were a bit late, and Gwen was running when we arrived at Sadler's Wells to pick up our pre-booked tickets. Except the performance wasn't at Sadler's it was at Peacock. Luckily the two are only a bit more than 5 minutes apart by bike if you move a bit faster than usual and you're really lucky with traffic lights (or pretend to be). We made it just in time.

We saw the dance theatre Justitia. And it was absolutely awesome! The stage design was beautiful yet simple. The story was interesting and kept me thinking. The timeline was non linear to the extreme: time-freeze, rewinding, parallel threads, and non chronological order. The dancing was great, they even had a part which reminded me a bit of this ping pong video. The music ranged from classical to electronic. Gwen and I even discussed if we'd want to see it a second time.

The only tiny bit I didn't like was that I didn't understand why her lawyer explained that her husband was a tyrant in court. That seemed counter productive to the story she was trying to sell to the judge.

Spring Equinox Celebrations

Victoria park is just around the corner from where we live.





The above image shows my bike on the left. I recently brought it to a repair shop to have some stuff repaired. At first they refused because they thought the tube which got damaged in an accident I had a long time ago could fall apart any moment. I had to go there a second time to convince them that I'd be fine.

Regent's Canal: Ice and Snow Pictures

Some more pictures of my favorite Regent's canal.

I cycle along this canal to work everyday. It takes me about 30 minutes to get to work, and about 15-20 minutes I spend cycling along the canal. It's probably the best part about my job. It's definitely the nicest way to work I've ever had.

This part of the canal always had the thickest ice. The ice never seemed to bother the water birds to much. There is a swan swimming in the freezing canal in this picture:

Winter in London

Lucky in London

Yesterday Gwen and I wanted to see two dance performances choreographed by Hofesh Schecter at the sold-out Roundhouse. Gwen already had booked her ticket and I hadn't. However, just after being told that there is no way I could get a ticket some stranger was so kind to offer me a ticket for free.

It was an awesome performance full of energy.

After the performance we enjoyed a beautifully peaceful and quiet ride home along the Regent's canal.

Sometimes London makes me forget that Vienna is the best city in the world.

Embracing to be alive in lively times

The tate modern is something like a second home to Gwen and me. One of the pictures in one of my favorite rooms in the tate is the one above. Next to the painting there is a comment by Brian Eno which ends with something like "[...] to embrace being alive in lively times."
